DataFace: left_behind is a video and image media piece that captures the diversity of faces we see when we consume commercial media. By using computer vision and processing sketches, I examine themes that include bias in algorithms and the nature of diversity. The data culled from a Spring Thursday night of broadcast television was created using either the popular OpenCV library’s face detection or from human detection. This concept was developed for my graduate thesis at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications program in 2014.
